Pink Room

The Pink Room in the Museum of Modern Art in Frankfurt. I suppose the room itself is an exhibit. There is some Andy Warhol stuff here but I didn't think it was worth photographing.

Simon and Grandda.

Simon and Grandda went to see Lucian Freud and the full scale replica of the "James Webb" space telescope at the Museum of Modern Art in Kilmainham on Sunday. We were dressed for the weather on this late June day. We had to squish squash and squelch our way over the open ground where the telescope is located.

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is the successor to the Hubble Space Telescope, and it will be almost three times the size of Hubble. JWST has been designed to work best at infrared wavelengths. This will allow it to study the very distant Universe, looking for the first stars and galaxies that ever emerged. It is due for launch in 2011.

The JWST is being developed in partnership with NASA. and ESA.

Early Summer Fog

The beginning of a very warm day in Ballybunion. Two couples in the distance. Even the dog is set to enjoy the warm spell in late May. Where is the good weather gone now. I've had to switch the heating back on.

Radio Eireann

Studio 10 in the R.T.E. Radio Centre, where I engineered many a programme. Have a look at this Blog to get a flavour of the early days of radio in it's new HQ in Donnybrook, after the big move out from the G.P.O. in Henry St.

Urban Art

Two of the steel support cables of the Hans Holbein pedestrian suspension bridge over the river Main in Frankfurt. I love the way that the architect has blended them into the old riverbank wall. Functional art. Artistic functionality.

Der Kaiserdom

Click on photo for larger version.

I've just returned from a shoot in Frankfurt. The Kaiserdom Cathedral was the site for the coronation of the Holy Roman Emperors. I'm not 100% happy with the composition of this photo but the Cathedral was being cleaned at the time and it was very hard to get into position for the shot. I find symmetry with the 11mm wide angle lens is very difficult to achieve.

The Virgin Rock

Click on photo for larger version.

This is The Virgin Rock at high tide in Ballybunion taken from a precarious position on the cliff promontory overlooking The Nun's Beach. The horizon had to be straightened afterwards, but apart from that, there was no other manipulation of the photograph. I'm very happy with my Sony Alpha 100. I'm getting better at judging the exposure as time goes by. For anyone else thinking of crawling out along the promontory; I would advise against it. I have the shot now and I'm never going out there again.
